Doolittle, Black Hills Raptor Series, Limited Edition print

One dollar from each print sold will be donated to the Black Hills Raptor Center.
And one print from each of the Raptors of the Hills Series (6 in total) will be donated to the center to be auctioned off at their annual fundraiser.

This tiny cutie is a Saw-whet owl named after the WWII pilot leader of Doolittle's raiders, Jim Doolittle. Pocket sized and full of personality, it's pretty easy to get lost in his huge eyes.

In February 2024, Doolittle was found on the side of a highway in the Hills, and radiographs revealed a broken coracoid bone and a dislocated shoulder. The bird was sent to the Bramble Park Zoo in Watertown SD for rehabilitation. The bone healed correctly, but dislocated shoulders are more difficult. The 88 gram owl was not releasable because of the shoulder. It has returned to us to be an avian ambassador. This guy may be small, but he has a HUGE personality, worthy of a HUGE name.

Fun Fact about Saw-whet Owls by BHRaptor Center:

"Saw-whets like dense pine forests. They can more easily hide, both from prey and other predators. They dwell in holes in trees, or the densest sections of the tree branches. Mice are their preferred food."
